Our Garden

We attempted to have a garden this year. Reed spent every weekend for two months swinging a pick at our hard ground filled with clay and rock. He finally had a little spot ready and we planted butternut squash, cucumbers, green beans, tomatoes, peppers, zucchini and yellow squash.

The cucumbers did pretty good. We ate a lot of them.

We ate quite a bit of yellow squash and zucchini before this lovely family moved to town and destroyed the plants. But we did enjoy what we had.

We have not been overloaded with tomatoes but we have had some here and there to enjoy.

This is the first time I have had stuff to bottle. So, thanks to a few other gardens we were able to bottle a bunch of pickles, grape juice, tomatoes and Salsa. Then I ordered a box of peaches from Utah and bottled some, made peach jam and we ate the rest...they were so good! Here is some of the stuff I bottled.

Great job with the garden and the canning! I didn't do to well this year. I should have taken more advantage of my mom's garden. I just didn't feel good during canning season:( Oh well--at least someone's shelves are stocked!

That is so awesome. Growing a garden is a lot of work. I bet you feel so proud of yourself for working so hard to grow and prepare all that fresh, organic food!

It all looks yummy! I'm impressed with your garden. Those squash bugs are yuck, there are a ton of them.

I'm impressed with the canning you've done. There's lots of satisfaction in looking at full shelves -- especially ones that are full of stuff you've bottled yourself.
